Open Studio Life Drawing
Dear Artists,
Open Studio Life Drawing resumes on January 8 and every Thursday thereafter. We have wonderful models already scheduled up through the first week in May. Our models have been great people, professional, skilled at modeling; we thank them for that.
If you can afford a little extra donation for the "donation jar" that would help offset the cost of rent and model remuneration.
We meet at 2pm and start at 2:15, taking a break from 3:30 to 3:45, and continue until 5pm.
A new aspect of the experience: Several artists have requested one long pose per session so that they can create salable figure drawings/paintings. So, the second and fourth (or last) Thursday of each month will be one pose, with a 15 minute warm-up from 2:15 to 2:30 of 2 minute gesture drawings. I hope this works for most of us. I really appreciate all of you coming to support the models and life drawing on Orcas!
Contact Doug at (360)376-7119 or email him at pro-figure-model@hotmail.com for further information.
CAROLINE BUCHANAN will teach Drawing - Orcas
Drawing for the Uncertain Artist on Saturday, February 28th and again on March 7th at the Orcas Island SENIOR CENTER. For those unsure of their drawing skills, Caroline will empower them when they discover that they, too, can draw. She teaches how to coordinate your hand and your eye with contour drawing. You will work with shading and come to understand the problem of changing three-dimensions to two. Caroline has a knack for explaining things clearly and simply. She claims you need only to identify 8 lines to be able to draw a building in perspective.
The classes are 9:30 - 4:30 with a half hour break for lunch. Cost is $85. Supplies are available at the Office Cupboard.
Figures in Watercolor is the watercolor class Caroline Buchanan is offering this spring at the Senior Center. It is Friday/Saturday: March 27& 28, April 3-4, 10:30 - 4:00. In the course you learn how to do simple distance figures such as those found walking on a beach or on a crowded street. You learn how to do connected configurations of figures and try some with ink and wash. You will also learn how to paint figures in sunlight and in a landscape. Some experience in watercolor is necessary. If you are very unsure of your drawing skills with figures, it would be wise to take the drawing class offered first. The price for the 4 days is $150. Class is limited to 12 students.
Contact Caroline with any questions: watercolors@rockisland.com, 376-5509 or check her website for examples and more information: www.buchananwatercolors.com. Contact the Senior Center to register: 376-2677.
